Deactivating an experience or option

Hub - Help Center Updated

Taking an experience or one of its options off sale for good is done by our team. Tell us which one and why, and we'll deactivate it. If you only want to stop sales for a while, don't use this — close the slots yourself and reopen them when you're ready.

A few words you'll see

  • Experience ID — the Headout reference for your experience. You'll find it on Hub, below the experience name.
  • Option — the variant of the experience, for example English Guided Tour or Cruise with Breakfast.
  • Deactivated — off sale and not bookable, until you ask for it back.

Before you start

  • Decide whether this is permanent. For a temporary stop, close the slots or add a closure instead — see Managing availability and inventory.
  • Check whether you mean the whole experience or a single option. Naming the option keeps the rest on sale.
  • Deal with guests who have already booked. Deactivating stops new bookings; it doesn't cancel existing ones — see Cancelling or refunding a booking.

Step 1 — Open the request form

  • Click Help in the left-hand menu of Hub. This signs you into the Help Centre.
  • Click Submit a request.
  • Choose Manage or edit your experience.
  • Under “Select the specific issue you need help with”, pick Deactivate experience or an option.

Step 2 — Say what to deactivate, and why

All three are required:

  • Please enter Headout Experience ID.
  • Please enter the option/variant name — name the option if only one is going, or say all options if the whole experience is.
  • Reason for deactivating your experience — choose one:
  • We do not want to sell this experience any more — you're retiring it.
  • There are multiple issues with the current configuration, we will resume once the issues are fixed — you intend to come back once things are right.
  • This is just a temporary closure — better handled by closing slots yourself, so check that first.
  • There is another similar product that we are selling — you're consolidating onto another listing.
  • Other — explain in the Description.

Tip: The reason decides what happens next. If you plan to sell it again, pick the configuration-issues reason rather than the first one — it keeps the listing in a state that's quicker to bring back.

Step 3 — Add a subject and description, then submit

Give the request a clear Subject naming the experience, and use Description for the date you want it off sale and anything our team should know — a replacement listing to point guests at, or a date you expect to return. Click Submit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I deactivate an experience myself?
No. It's handled by our team so the listing comes down cleanly and guests with bookings aren't left stranded.

I just want to pause sales for a fortnight.
Don't deactivate. Close the slots for those dates and reopen them afterwards — it's immediate and you stay in control.

What happens to guests who have already booked?
Their bookings stand. Deactivating only stops new ones. Cancel the existing bookings yourself from the Bookings dashboard if they can't go ahead.

Can I deactivate one option and keep the others?
Yes. Name that option and say in the Description that the others stay on sale.

How do I get it back on sale?
Raise a request to reactivate it — see Reactivating your experience.

Will I lose my prices and schedules?
Usually not. They're kept, which is why reactivating is quicker than building the listing again. Check them once it's live.

The experience isn't showing on Headout, but I didn't deactivate it.
That's a different request — see Reactivating your experience.
